Rehabilitation follows a logical sequence.
STEP I PAIN and EDEMA must be controlled first. Modalities, medications, and some forms of Immobilization may be necessary. (Massage, manual therapy, and acupuncture Are useful to reduce pain and promote activity.)
STEP II FLEXIBILITY and ROM can be addressed once pain decreases.
STEP III Once mobility is restored, STRENGTHENING can be achieved in the appropriate range with closed and open chain kinetics.
STEP IV ENDURANCE TRAINING is added to the strengthening Regimen.
STEP V Finally, FUNCTION AND SPORT-SPECIFIC activities are integrated. This necessitates
- Neuromuscular re-education,
- Balance,
- Proprioception and
- Agility training.
