The hidden challenge: overuse injuries in youth sports.
Despite being an increasing concern in young sports, overuse injuries are frequently overlooked. Young athletes' bodies experience repetitive strain without enough rest or recuperation when they pursue performance goals and specialise early. Stress fractures, tendinitis, and growth plate irritation are examples of overuse injuries that develop gradually and are therefore more difficult to identify and frequently disregarded until they become serious, in contrast to acute injuries that occur abruptly. In order to treat and prevent these injuries, physiotherapists are essential. They aid in the identification of biomechanical problems, suggest adjustments tailored to a particular sport, and create strength and mobility plans to increase resilience. Crucially, they also teach coaches, parents, and athletes about the warning indications of overuse and the importance of cross-training and rest days. The trick is striking a balance between physical awareness and ambition.Young athletes need to be taught that pain is a warning sign rather than a mark of honour. Early detection and treatment of overuse injuries by physiotherapists promote recovery and allow young athletes to have longer, healthier sporting careers.
